Flash of Genius

It isn't action / adventure...but then, it isn't billed that way. This is a very sad story about a man who gives up years of his life, his marriage, his relationships and his career to prove a point.

Certainly gives you something to think about.

Away We Go

John Krasinski is fantastic in this movie. Watch his eyes in each scene.

The story is artfully woven together.

The scene on the trampoline is so moving that I was in tears.

The ending is a little weak and I wish there was more to it but over-all, this is one movie I would recommend to anyone who isn't offended by language or an opening scene of oral sex.

A River Runs Through It

Probably one of my favorite movies of all time. Perfectly acted. Wonderfully directed. This movie is a heartfelt story that moves the viewer and challenges them to pray for those who are struggling with their own self-destruction.

Overboard

Campy, funny, tasteless movie with a terrible ending but still a lot of fun to watch.

Kung Fu Panda

There were several parts of this movie that I truly enjoyed. There is nothing spectacular about the show and I don't believe they can make a sequel (but who would have guessed that Land Before Time could have gone into XIII episodes, TV, comic books, dinnerware, clothing, night-gowns, lunch boxes, and much more).

Paul Blart: Mall Cop

No Academy Awards for this one but Kevin James, one of my favorite comedy actors, does a great job. Jayma Mays looks like a Barbie Doll at the beginning of this movie and its actually a little freaky. I couldn't decide if this was intentional or not.

Best line: "Safety never takes a holiday."

Rudy

I'm a sucker for sports movies based on true stories. This is one of my favorites. Stop today at Blockbuster and pick it up if you've never rented this one before. You'll be glad you did.

Notting Hill

I've been to Notting Hill and can honestly say that I didn't see any of these people there. The entire movie is a lie.

Actually, it is a funny love story with wonderful characters and some funny lines. It isn't believable for one minute (a beautiful and famous movie star isn't going to just pop in to change her orange juice covered shirt) but it is still a great movie.

Perhaps one of Hugh Grant's best movies.

A Mighty Wind

There is something very wonderful about this movie. Yes, I know it is filled with many of the same actors from previous movies; "Waiting for Guffman," "Best in Show". But each time I see them, I find a new depth to their acting.

This movie actually has a moment when the tenderness of the story moves you.

Eugene Levy's performance is wonderful.

Clue

This movie is twisted and fun. All three endings are fun to watch and Tim Curry is a genius in the show.

Burn After Reading

This movie is completely amoral, filled with debauchery. Don't take the kids. But you might want to see it for a sick kind of laugh.

A Knight's Tale

A cult favorite, this movie is fun to watch. While one of the theme songs is "We Will Rock You", the movie has never done the same for me.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail

As stupid as it was in 1975, this movie makes commentary on everything from political systems to religious institutions. And makes fun of everything else along the way.

Akeelah & the Bee

This is a story about potential, motivation, loss and pain. It is a story of redemption, opportunity discovered and rediscovered. It is a feel-good movie with one of the best young actors I've ever seen. Keke Palmer is at the height of her young career in this wonderful story. If you haven't watched this movie, you should rent it today.

HOOK

One of the best casts in any movie. The story is done well. The jokes are well-timed. The effects are cartoonish, which is perfect for the story style and story-line.

Stranger than Fiction

Okay, kids. This is one GREAT movie. The actors are spectacular. The story is perfect. The moral of the story will move you to tears if you let it.

Watch it with an open mind.

Watch it again and pay attention to the little details.

Watch it a third time to enjoy Emma Thompson and some of the best acting I've ever seen.

Pirates of the Caribean: Dead Man's Chest

This isn't the best of the Three but it is still fun to watch. I've never enjoyed viewing slimy sea creatures but these guys have flair.

Saving Private Ryan

Wonderful, artistic, powerful, moving.

The Great Escape

Not my wife's favorite movie (she wondered aloud why anyone would choose to watch it) but I like it. Good actors, a great story, and those wacky Germans.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

This movie is not as big as I thought it might be. I try to save my dollars for the movies that need to be seen on the big screen: Star Wars, Gone with the Wind, Meet the Robbinsons...you get my drift.

Benjamin Button isn't one of those movies. It is interesting and I intend on reading the book but it isn't epic. It isn't grand in scale. It isn't worth $18.

The Greatest Game Ever Played

Brilliantly done, this movie is based on a true story. While you may not have aspirations to be a great golfer, the film inspires you to greater things; whether you are a golfer, a caddy, or a ditch digger.

Ratatouille

In my opinion, this is one of the best movies the Pixar/Disney team has ever made. The music is wonderful. The characters have depth. The story is interesting. The writing is witty and clever. I can watch this film many times and it always stays fresh.

ATTACK!

Some of the best movies are still the in black and white.

Harry Potter and the Chamer of Secrets

One of my favorite movies in the series. I think the characters are well done, the special effects are not too CGI, and the cast is in top form.

Kung Pow: Enter the Fist

The idea is good but the execution lacked quality. I couldn't even finish the movie.
